Xiamen, China is located on the southeastern coast of Fujian Province. Xiamen City can be dated back as far as the Song Dynasty. Today, Xiamen is a rapidly growing city, with a vigourous economy and a fully-modern infrastructure. Over the past 10 years, Xiamen has increasingly focused on the cultivation of international trade, education, and tourism. Xiamen has a wonderful, tropical climate, it is mild in temperature and rich in rainfall. The city has many attractions for the foreign visitor. They have a surrounding countryside that offers spectacular scenery and pleasant tree-lined beaches. Gulangyu, also known as Piano Island, is a popular, peaceful weekend getaway which is abundant in good foods, great shopping and invigorating hiking.
The city is also very good for Golfing. People travel many miles to take advantage of the recreation they have. Xiamen has also been in the Guiness Book of World Records for having the World's Largest Canon on Huli Hill Fort. On this fort the canon is facing Taiwan with Taiwanese battle ships protecting their land.

Xiamen is a lovely Place !! It is very different than the rest of China. It is a city, but it is along the beach, and although you will rarely find people actually on the beach during the day ( they are packed at night oddly enough), it still kind of has that beach-y mentality. So the potato chips in China are full meals ! We have barbeque chips, they have barbequed beef and pork ! Fried Chicken, Cucmber, basically all of your food groups can be found in chip form !! LOL I know people were staring at me in the supermarket as I was taking pictures and I am sure they were thinking, "Where is this girl from where they don't have potato chips!?" After I organised this trip, I realised that I could also visit relatives on my father's side in China too. They lived at Chan Village about half-hour from Zhao An (which itself was four hours away by bus from Xiamen). By the way, my surname is "Tian" in Mandarin which is quite an uncommon one.
